Born into a Muslim family in Singida, Tanzania, on October 1st, 1968, Elibariki Sumbe‘s early life was marked by hardship. Poverty cast a long shadow, culminating in the tragic death of his father. The young Elibariki, burdened with grief and responsibility, had to carry his father‘s body for over 60 kilometers from the hospital back to their village. This experience etched a deep sense of loss and longing in his heart.
Years passed, and Elibariki found himself seeking solace in the fleeting distractions of a local pub. But it was in this unlikely setting that his life took a dramatic turn. As he sat amidst the noise and smoke, Jesus Christ appeared to him in the form of fire. This encounter was a moment of profound transformation, igniting a spark of faith within him that would forever alter his course.
Elibariki embraced Christianity with fervor, dedicating himself to learning about Christ and sharing his newfound faith with others. Driven by a vision to build a community of believers, Elibariki founded the Vuka Yordani Church in Ngaramtoni Arusha but later expanded and had to be relocated to Kisongo Waya, Arusha. Elibariki went on to establish the Grace Evangelical Churches, a network of churches across Tanzania, each with its own pastor but overseen by him as the Bishop.
